JT’s journey to creating Above the Best Training is rooted in resilience, servant leadership, and the pursuit of excellence. Raised by a single mother and overcoming childhood trauma, JT learned early on that there was always something greater to strive for. After attending his first year of college on a Presidential Scholarship to the College of Eastern Utah, he served a life-changing 2 year mission for his church. JT then enlisted in the military to become a helicopter pilot, undergoing rigorous flight training to include survival training designed to prepare soldiers for life behind enemy lines, including interrogation, torture, and escape.
It was during his military service that JT recognized a widespread need for effective leadership training. With over 15 years of leadership and mental performance coaching experience, JT has dedicated himself to crafting a program that equips people with the mental toughness and leadership skills necessary to thrive under pressure. As an Army aviator and experience leading in combat, he draws on real-world experiences to teach participants how to stay focused, lead with purpose, and push beyond their limits.
JT’s method combines repetition and practice with challenging and pressure filled scenarios teaching participants how to stay calm, focused, and resilient in any situation. His approach includes five core mental toughness tools: controlling breathing, positive self-talk, visualization, focus points, and stepping away to refocus.
Beyond his intensive workshops, JT offers a 6-8 week leadership program where participants meet weekly to master these techniques, training to a standard, not to time. JT has shaped Above The Best into one of the most challenging and transformative leadership programs available today.
